Program Notes |
An evening of mouthwatering madrigals and merriment.
With guests Roy Sansom, recorder, and Douglas Freundlich, lute.
In our first step beyond the classical concert stage, CMS hosted
an evening of songs, poetry, dancing, and lots of great food,
with colorful costumes and decorations. The evening centered on
the residents of the small village of Cantabridgia (Cambridge)
as they celebrate love, go off to fight the encroaching denizens
of Somerville, suffer loss and tragedy, and emerge in a springtime
of renewal. The concert dinner was nearly 2-1/2 hours long, which
gave members of the chorus time to perform a number of different
small ensemble and solo works, some accompanied by lute or recorder,
as well as full-scale choral music.
